Statement from Jonathan Irwin CEO and Founder of the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation welcoming €70,000 donation from Alan Shatter today “On behalf of the 300 precious children with life limiting or life threatening conditions under our wing, we want to thank Alan Shatter for this donation of €70,000 which equates to approximately €50,000 after tax and will fund 3,125 hours of home nursing care to children in every community in Ireland. “As an Irish children’s charity, we’ve got to raise €2.7 million every year and, with less than 20% coming in State aid, this donation couldn’t come at a better time for Jack & Jill. Like other charities we’ve seen a significant decrease in donations in 2014 as a result of too many high profile charity scandals in the recent past. Public confidence has been eroded in the charity sector and I want to thank Alan Shatter for spearheading the drive for a charity regulator which is well overdue.”
