Statement from former SNP member and convener Craig Murray I - TopicsExpress

Statement from former SNP member and convener Craig Murray I grew up in the Thatcher era in Ayrshire the grandson of proud Doon Valley miners and the son of someone employed in the mining industry. You can guess how that panned out. As you may imagine they were all Socialists, Labour voters and supporters of the Trade Union Movement, so when i started talking about independence and voting SNP it raised a few eyebrows. The natural progression was to join the party, which i did, and became a branch convener and a candidate in the 2012 local authority elections.Just recently some of the decisions taken by the party started leaving me disillusioned, NATO for one. It started me thinking, could the SNP deliver the left wing agenda i would like to see in an Independent Scotland. My heart said yes, my head said no. Its too broad a church with sections of the party pulling left and others pulling right. While i applaud the commitment to re-nationalise the Royal Mail, why not make a commitment to re-nationalise the railways, energy companys etc? So after months of soul searching i resigned from the party and walked away. I am still fully commited to securing a YES vote in 2014 and happy to campaign alongside my Ex-SNP comrades as part of YES SCOTLAND but i will now do it promoting the benefits of Independence to the wider Labour and Trade Union movements rather than an SNP party line. Things just got interesting. Craig Murray
