Status Update By Avi Benlolo It is so upsetting to learn about the tragic loss of life on the Malaysian plane (MH17) that was shot down by Russian backed terrorists. What a loss to the world that some 100 top AIDS researchers on their way to a conference in Australia were killed. How maddening it is that people who are consumed by hatred and intolerance steal the humanity and dignity of people who are dedicated to the cause of humanity and the betterment of our world. Our world is being hi-jacked by terrorists who fire missiles at planes and at cities indiscriminately. Our own plane from Warsaw to Israel last Friday morning was diverted to Cyprus because of Hamas rockets to Israel. Our plane contained Canadian officials who dedicated themselves to making communities across Canada safer. As the world continues to suffer from Apathy by allowing vicious extremists like pro-Russian terrorists in Crimea or Islamic State terrorists in Iraq and Syria or Hamas in the Gaza strip - innocent people suffer and are murdered. Its time for the world community to stand up against hate and intolerance and dignify those who work to make the world a better place. Let us resolve not to let terrorists dehumanize us. Let us continue pursuing the cause of tolerance, justice and human rights. Let us all work harder to make the world a better place - not through random acts of kindness, but through directed acts of kindness. The balance of the scale of peace rests in our hands. Let us not succumb to negativity and hostility - but to love, peace and compassion. This is what makes us human and this is what maintains democracy, freedom and liberty.
