Status update - August 23, 2014 What we have learned to date about the horses. • Eleven Peruvian horses showed up at the Cow Town Auction Yard in Turlock, California on Saturday, August 16th, 2014. The horses were being sold as “Soy Del Peru” babies – unregistered. We learned about their plight after the sale ended Saturday night when one of our Peruvian horse friends shared pictures of the horses taken at the auction; and posted to the “Auction Horse Rescue” group’s Face Book page. • The rumor at the auction was someone “Lost” their ranch and these horses ended up at the auction yard, which explained their distressed condition. • Eleven horses were bought by a horse broker/dealer at the sale. No one bid on the Peruvians, and he bought them for $25 a head. It is well known in our local community, that this broker buys and resells horses for profit. • On Sunday and Monday I put the word out at the auction yards in Turlock and our local auction yard here in Escalon, that I was looking for the guy who bought the Peruvian horses on Saturday night. He called me on Monday. • He said that he had bought eleven Peruvian horses at the auction and had sold two youngsters (a filly and a stud colt) that night after the sale to a supporter of the Horse Auction Rescue group. I have since found out, that these two horses are being fostered by someone in Vacaville. He also advised me that he sold a grey flea bitten mare on Sunday afternoon to a person who wants to use her to cross breed with Andalusian horses. He also told me the Peruvians were very skinny and were located at a feedlot in Turlock. Plus, he was willing to deliver them to me that day for $200 a head. I made arrangement to meet with his partner in Turlock the next morning. Immediately after this conversation, I called Marilyn and we drove to Turlock. The place we met his partner at was not the place they were being stored. The truck drove in just as we did, and his partner proceeded to unload them into the coral with all the wood you see them stumbling over in the video. (See video-First Look) When they came flying out of the trailer, we both started crying. We bought all eight for $200 each. • After looking at the pictures a family member recognized one of the mares as being a Champion Breeding mare here in the United States which had been imported from Peru. • Not knowing the story, I reached out to the family who I thought owned the mare, and had breed to the Stallion Soy Del Peru - Figuerola Peruvians in Santa Ynez. Being concerned that the horses may have been stolen and shipped up north for auction without their knowledge. • Since then the Figuerola Peruvian Family has reached out to us personally with their concerns and wanting to help. They have released a statement on their website about the situation with these specific horses, they were sold to a breeder to do outcrossing with Andalusian horses. Interested parties can read the statement here: figuerolaperuvians/news.php • • All horses were sold without papers, and will be adopted from us without registration papers. FIGUEROLA Peruvians | News figuerolaperuvians FIGUEROLA Peruvians breeds the finest Peruvian horses in the world, and offers discriminating horsemen the ultimate in luxury, performance and comfort.
