This morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) extended the Severe Weather Alert for the region. Heat Index values in excess of 105 degrees and as high as 106-108 degrees are expected throughout the region for several hours this afternoon. A high pressure centered over Texas will continue to keep the area influenced by a hot and humid airmass and produce potentially dangerous heat index values this afternoon. A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM THIS EVENING A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRESS LIGHTLY, REMOVE EXTRA CLOTHING; POSTPONE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IF POSSIBLE; DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS; STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM IF POSSIBLE; STAY OUT OF THE SUN; CHECK UP ON RELATIVES, NEIGHBORS AND CO-WORKERS.
