Stay safe with this dangerous weather and PLEASE protect your pets - they can get heat stroke too - remember most of them are wearing fur coats! This morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) extended the Severe Weather Alert for the region. Heat Index values in excess of 105 degrees and as high as 106-108 degrees are expected throughout the region for several hours this afternoon. A high pressure centered over Texas will continue to keep the area influenced by a hot and humid airmass and produce potentially dangerous heat index values this afternoon. A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM THIS EVENING A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRESS LIGHTLY, REMOVE EXTRA CLOTHING; POSTPONE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IF POSSIBLE; DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS; STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM IF POSSIBLE; STAY OUT OF THE SUN; CHECK UP ON RELATIVES, NEIGHBORS AND CO-WORKERS.
