Staying Healthy with the Seasons A Brand New Way to Stay Healthy for the Whole Year Autumn Series The 24 solar terms are special terms created by ancient working people of China to reflect the changes of weather, climate and natural phenomena. The terms are closely related to agricultural production and every aspect of daily life, including clothing, food, housing and transportation, etc. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine physiology and theory, one of the key points of staying healthy is to maintain the harmony between heaven and humans. Autumn The forces of autumn create dryness in Heaven and metal on Earth; they create the lung organ and the skin upon the body… and the nose, and the white color, and the pungent flavor… the emotion grief, and the ability to make a weeping sound. The Inner Classic Book Autumnal Equinox( Li Qiu) Date: Aug 7, 2013 Energy Meridian: Lung, Spleen, Gall Bladder Organ: Lung, Spleen, Gall Bladder Diet: 1.Eat more sour, astringent and heartier flavors and less spicy foods. Apple, pomegranate, hawthorn berry, grapes, mango, peach, grape fruit, lemon water, tomato, sourdough bread, sauerkraut, olives, pickles, salt plums, rose hip tea and vinegar 2.More moist foods: Beans, dairy, yogurt, cheese, pear, lychee, pineapple, lotus root and crab. 3.Food cooking in general: Cook using less water at lower heat, for longer eriods of time. Life style: Protect lungs, stomach, improve liver function. Calm and clarify the mind. No more watermelon for weak and cold stomach person!!! Less melon 10 days after Li Qiu ( Aug 6) Sleep: Sleep early and get up early. Diseases to treat: Chronic diseases such as aches and pain: neck pain, arm pain, wrist pain, shoulder pain, back pain; Rib and chest pain, headache, eye pain. Avoid spicy and fried foods and eat more sour foods. Life Style: Avoid dryness, less spicy and more sour food, best time to nourish our ‘Yin”.Best time to get pregnant! Sleep: Take a nap, Sleep before 11 pm, get up after 5 am.Close window and always cover tummy to sleep at night. Diseases to treat: Arthritis, shoulder and back pain, chest pain, chronic skin problems, rib pain, fatigue, cough, asthma, tight chest. Exercise : Breathing, Meditation, Yoga, Swallowing, Football, soccer, basketball. More inwards, growing more Yin exercise, staying more loose and relaxed, stretching, calisthenics, running, and hiking will all help. Autumn Bath: Bath with herbs or mineral water everyday, and brush your skin with loofah sponge or skin brush to remove dead cells and to stimulate the skin, clearing of toxins, your skin’s health is important to the lungs, and this is best time to take care our skin.
