Staying The Course During Difficult Times Mat 25:1 Then the - TopicsExpress

Staying The Course During Difficult Times Mat 25:1 Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. This morning I found my thoughts upon this discourse of Christ as He sat with those who were nearest to Him. He was nearing the end of His sojourn on this world and was preparing them for His departure! According to Jewish tradition this company of ten virgins was an expected occurrence. They were to wait upon the Bride Grooms appearance at the wedding, making sure they had enough oil to keep their lamps lit. Without laboring too much we see that half were prepared and half were not! The story goes that the wedding was late in starting and because of the delay five of the virgins fell asleep, not noticing their lamps were flickering and about to go out. This was a costly mistake for they missed their opportunity to participate in the festivities. Isa 40:31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. It is easy to slumber during times of inactivity. We may have received an invitation to participate in Gods work only to find that the fulfillment is long in coming! Think of the person in a symphonic orchestra who must be alert to the progress of the music and the conductors direction to play his triangle in that one important part of the piece, ding! Would you be tempted to let your mind wander, I would. I love being served by a waiter who is focused on me, dont you? He will be rewarded with a good tip. As we focus on our Lord, ministering to Him and waiting upon Him, the word promises that we will be renewed, refreshed and strengthened! We will always have the poor with us. We will always have opportunity to serve the needy, but when we have those quiet seasons, it is a good time to wait upon The Lord! Keep your lamps lit my brethren.
