SteamCraft restaurant &Bar is the hottest new eatery to open up in the bustling suburb of Woodstock. The quaint little building is located on Roodebloem road, but don’t let its appearance fool you. Inside is a kitchen that delivers massive flavours and a team that is big on customer service. My mates, Marc and Barry, joined me for dinner at this #Steampunk inspired restaurant to check out exactly what everyone was getting so excited about. If you don’t know what steampunk is, think about that movie Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, or Wild Wild West meets Van Helsing (minus the Vamps)…. Get it? The décor is subtle and warm with hints of this fictional genre in everything from the bar finishes to the gorgeous wall paper and light fittings. Our posse were all about the meat and the boys had the 250g seared fillet, which is served with pan seared veg and fries or sweet potato fries. My friend Marc added the creamy mushroom sauce to his steak, which the boys tell me was cooked so perfectly, that the cliché “a hot knife through butter” just won’t cut it. I was brave and decided to go for the Cancoon Mexican Burger. The waitress did stop and remind me that this meal came with a “hot” warning, but I persisted. Boy was it hot. The warning should come with a warning….! But if you like that kind of thing, which I do, then it’s the best hot sauce in #CapeTown and the slam dunk is the crispy sweet potato fries – wow! Crunchy, full of that sweet potato flavour and light on the pallet, the perfect alternative to fries, if you are a lover of the lower carb options. For desert we shared the Frozen Margarita Mango Pie and the Chocolate Brownie. I would best describe the Mango Pie as ice-cream meets cheese cake with a mango flavour. It was light and a little crunchy (I assume from being a frozen desert) and after the heat from the Cancoon Mexican Burger it was also some welcome relief. The Brownie is actually clever named “The 1982 called.
