Stef Noij = KMG Instructor of the month Name: Stef Noij Age: 28 years Marital status: In a relationship Occupation: Sergeant in the Royal Dutch Marechaussee (Military Police) Krav Maga experience: Expert 1, 7 years of training with Institute Krav Maga Netherlands (IKMN) Why Krav Maga: I have trained several martial arts, starting with kickboxing, from the age of 15. I enjoyed kickboxing tremendously, but soon realized my boxing wasnt good enough, and started training boxing as well. After training as a stand-up fighter, I realized I didnt feel comfortable with ground fighting, and began MMA to cover that aspect. For several years I trained in all three disciplines. However, a number of real-life events made me question how complete a fighter I really was. In a short period of time, people I knew had been involved in incidents like being beaten up by multiple attackers and threatened with a knife. I even saw someone stabbed in the neck. One story in particular really set me on my path to Krav Maga. A colleague of mine, who had learned Krav Maga during an Air Marshall course in Israel, got into a situation where someone threatened him and his wife at gun point. My colleague managed to save himself and his wife with a Krav Maga gun technique he had learned during the course. A week later I went to my first Krav Maga lesson given by my instructor Heath Leavitt. The way he gave that first lesson, and continues giving lessons today, changed me as a fighter, student, instructor and as a person. Weekly training regime: In addition to training with my instructor Heath, my Krav Maga training partner David Lagarrigue (also Expert 1) and the other instructors at IKMN, I spend a lot of time dry drilling and repeating Krav Maga attacks and techniques. I also train Primal Move whenever I get the chance, as well as doing circuit training with the best exercises for making myself better at self defense. Im always striving to become stronger, faster, more functional and more technical in my training. Most effective Krav Maga technique: I think the most effective techniques are the prevention techniques. With a good prevention you dont have to perform the entire technique. Tip for KM trainees: Every Expert was a practitioner once. When I see students struggling with techniques in the lessons I still see myself doing the same when I was learning those techniques. Be the best you can be, never stop learning and never give up. campaign.r20.constantcontact/render?llr=ns68jbeab&v=001_3wh4u6-fR_TfVPadzRtQARaMofaPFlM4QAs7A1UsYrBCBn5247x-uEpUIT2Pulb-Cb6XBmc-zKnPExcS4hydckTh0rBseRvdGLeMRXATNvQmCDk8zL1dA0gLcgXobUXq4xD3OKQe2-1JRqAcfhEeSBVJQRfG0rP
