(Stefanie) Police officer stoned A police officer was stoned by two suspects when he tried to intervene in an alleged attempted house break-in in Claremont. The Hercules police are still looking for two suspects who allegedly threw stones at a police officer on Friday when they were prevented from breaking into a house in Claremont. According to police spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango, a case of malicious damage to property has been opened at the station and is under investigation. “An unarmed police officer, who was off duty, followed two suspicious people. He caught them allegedly trying to break into a house in the Claremont area in Marina Street, but when he intervened, the suspects began to throw stones at him.” For his safety, the police officer ran to a nearby house. A sliding door was damaged by the stones the suspects threw at the officer. Luckily, however, the officer did not sustain any injuries. Police are appealing to the community to assist them with any further information. “We also urge community members to be on the lookout, and if they see any suspicious people in their street, they should let the police know about it.” Msimango mentioned that residents should also get to know their neighbours, so that they could keep watch over one another’s houses to reduce the number of house break-in and robberies in the area.
