Stella Gusman: alohala14@gmail [latrappers] My beloved colony of 80+ cats at Long Beach City College is under immediate threat from new school administration. This project has a team of 10 active caregivers with a faculty liaison and student support. We worked closely with school and got permission to do a large scale TNR, build shelters and have feeding stations. It has been a highly successful project. So far around 50 tame cats and kittens have been taken into foster care for adoption. We invested thousands of dollars with no financial support at all from the school. We are very proud of this project and loyal to our beloved cats. And we have been extremely diplomatic and professional during our entire project. But its time to take off the gloves. Last week, without notice, a posting was sent to LBCC community stating that anyone feeding cats on campus would be prosecuted. Any staff would be terminated and students would be expelled. Wow. We created a coalition of support who contacted the school and we are now allowed to feed the cats until we have a meeting with administration on Tuesday. I was begging to get arrested feeding our cats before they conceded! That would have been fantastic! Oh well. So the school issued another statement on Fri stating that cats would be fed until they get relocated. Another jaw dropping moment. We have the founders of the impressive CSULB cat colony attending the meeting with us in Tuesday. The issues the school administration cited are fleas and diseases carried by wild cats. Supposedly someone filed a Workmans Comp claim that s/he got a flea bite on campus. Supposedly another staff said that she requires allergy meds to work on campus. The absurdity of these claims baffles me. This is a high profile colony project (that we have kept very private for obvious reasons). We have decided not to organize a protest or campaign against school pending the Tuesday meeting. The outcome of this conflict can affect other colonies. So support is crucial! I would like to invite anyone who wants to come to the meeting with us Tuesday at 1pm to support the protection and rights of the colony cats. Thanks, Toni Btw someone came forward that a staff openly said that he plans on poisoning the cats on campus. My goal is to demand an investigation of any threats made to our cats. I am adamant that this man should be fired and has no right to be in a teaching community.
