To change myself, I must first change my perception. All the things I wish to change in my life, whether they are based in work, relationships, or personal satisfaction with my life, come from my perceptions of myself and of the world around me. I know that I am capable. I know that I am able to change my situation if I truly desire to. The key to changing myself is embracing the Character Ethic. The character ethic is a foundation of success based in integrity, humility, fidelity, courage, justice, patience, and the Golden rule. There are basic principles of effective living, and I can only experience true success and enduring happiness as I learn and integrate these principles into my character. I must be able to appreciate myself and be satisfied with who I am, rather than seeking to change myself for social benefit. The first step is to look deep inside myself and see who is the person I wish to be. If I search my own heart diligently, I will find the answer to all the issues in my life. I am seeking primary greatness, the greatness of a solid, honest foundation to everything I do. Secondary greatness, the social recognition for my talents, will come easily once I place the focus where it belongs, on the foundation. I need to establish an effective paradigm for my life and everything I do. A paradigm is like a map or everything I am and do. Rather than having a map in my head of the way things are, I will replace it with a map of the way things should be, of my values and ideals. That way, whenever I look inside myself for the answer to a problem I am facing, I will see my personal map pointing me clearly towards the right destination. My attitudes and behaviors grow out of the way I see things, and as such having the right map is the source of the way I think and the way I act. I can only act with integrity and be a whole, fulfilled person if I follow my map and act according to my paradigm. My paradigm to now has been shaped by every influence around me, and I must figure out what are the positive influences and what are the negative ones. I can only change my attitudes and behaviors effectively if I examine the basic paradigms from which those attitudes and behaviors flow. I see the world as I am conditioned to see it, and I am ready to condition myself to see it in the way I wish to see it. I am sincere, I am clearheaded, and I see things through the unique lens of experience. I know what are facts, and I know what I can change by thinking correctly. The more aware I am of my paradigm, the more I can take responsibility for it and be open to changing it to benefit myself. My mind is open, and I am ready to embrace that Aha moment that changes my perception for the better. To make significant changes in my life, I must have a paradigm shift. I can only achieve significant improvement in my life when I get to work on the root of my problems. In order to see things differently, I must be different. Paradigm shifts can take time, and are inseparable from character. Paradigms create the lens through which I see the world. I know that there are natural laws in the human dimension that are just as real as the law of gravity. When I look at my life through my paradigms, I know that my paradigms are not reality. They are merely my perception of reality. If I wish to change my reality, I can take the first step by changing my paradigm. I understand the natural laws that govern human growth and happiness. These laws are woven into the fabric of every society that has endured and prospered. By tailoring my perceptions to these laws, I can open the door to true happiness. These are the principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, human dignity, service, and potential. I believe that by following these principles and working them into every area of my life, I can bring my paradigm into accord with the world. These principles are the key to all human interaction. In all phases of life, there are stages of growth and change. I understand that I must follow this path and let the stages come naturally, because only through this process can the change occur in a natural and lasting manner. If I am at a two in a field, I can only get to a ten through hard work, persistence, and patience. How I see the problem is key to solving it. I want substance in my change. I want to follow the process. I want to solve the chronic underlying problem and focus on the principles that bring long term results. I am ready to start from the inside and work on my paradigm, creating the lasting change in my life I seek. I am ready to create the map to the success I see for myself.
