Stephen Kings The Stand A four hour mini series about a plague that wipes out most of the population say for a few who are immune. The survivors are contacted and led by a psychic named Mother Abigail who instructs them all to gather and form a new civilization of peace and prosperity. All the while a mysterious and equally powerful evil man named Randall Flagg is gathering his own civilization of sin and violent conquest. A story of change, personal growth and soul searching. This one is...kind of hard to figure out. On the one hand the story of two different groups of people rebuilding civilization after a catastrophe is pretty interesting to me. On the other hand the story cant seem to decide what it wants to do with its supernatural elements. The villain seems to be The Devil but its never made really clear. Also, the supernatural stuff seems to only be used for its connivence as it only comes up when the plot needs to be moved forward or to provide a deus ex machina ending. Plus, the script is mostly silly, the acting is on and off and the pacing is slow. Overall, its not the greatest work from Stephen King but its a good funny piece of 90s cheese.
