Sterling Forest Resort A public discussion on the draft scoping document is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at the George Grant Mason Elementary School, 11 Hillside Ave. in Tuxedo. The plan calls for the redevelopment of the existing seasonal entertainment venues for year-round tourism in addition to the casino, a 1,000-room hotel and restaurants. The project would also include a ski village at the location of the current Tuxedo Ski Ridge Center, the rehabilitation of the Sterling Forest Garden, an arboretum, amphitheater, ziplines, a cable railway on a steep slope, mountain biking and hiking trails, stables, toboggan runs, and a riverfront walk along the Indian Kill Creek. ---------------------------------------- Genting Americas Tuxedo projection is 6.9 million visitors annually: 07/23/14 In an updated site plan filed with the Tuxedo Planning Board, Genting Americas provides details of recreational activities that will be available at the Sterling Forest Resort, and says it expects 6.9 million visitors to the casino annually. The plan, available on the town’s website, tuxedogov.org, calls for the redevelopment of the existing seasonal entertainment venues for year-round tourism in addition to the casino, which would be up to 180,000 square feet, a 1,000-room hotel and restaurants. The project would be built on a 240-acre lot and would include 75 structures, about 50 of which already exist and would be rebuilt. The largest building would be the seven-story hotel, which would rise to a height of 122 feet with additional 104 feet of spires and ornamentation. About 8,900 parking spaces would serve the complex. The project is among nine in Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties hoping to be chosen this fall for a state gaming license. The town has voted to support the project and has declared itself the lead agency for the environmental review process. In the updated site plan, Genting upped its estimate of expected visitors each year from an earlier range of 3 million to 5 million to the more precise figure of 6.9 million. To help ease traffic congestion, Genting will pay for a new exit 15B on the Thruway, which will end in a roundabout at the intersection of routes 17 and 106. Preliminary designs for the exit can be found through a link on the town’s website. Earlier this week, the town also posted a copy of the draft scoping document for environmental review on its website, which describes the proposed actions the town will take during the process. The Town Board will accept written comments on the document until 3 p.m. Aug. 4. A public discussion on the draft scoping document is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at the George Grant Mason Elementary School, 11 Hillside Ave. in Tuxedo. recordonline. com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=%2F20140723%2FNEWS%2F140729861%2F-1%2FNEWS
