Steve Dolby (Events Tyre Expert). HOW OLD ARE YOUR TYRES? Did you know that there is a manufacturing date code on your tyres? Look for a string of digits molded on the tyre sidewall normally starting with the letters DOT. (U.S. Department of Transportation). For tyres made since the year 2000, the last four digits indicate the week and year of manufacture. In this example, 2710 means that this tyre was made in week 27 of the year 2010. Prior to the year 2000, 3 digits were used. The last digit indicates the year and the two previous digits the week of manufacture. This example shows a date code of 211, meaning that the tyre was made in week 21 of 1991. The image above for tyres manufactured after 2000, the image below for tyres manufactured before 2000.
