Steve signing in at 7:43 AM. Cool temperatures, clear skies and patchy fog prevail this morning as we begin to wind down the summer season. 53F reported at Nebo, 54F at the Morganton/Lenoir AP, 55F at Vale and 58F at Hickory. Sunny skies will be the rule today with scattered to broken cumulus this afternoon, no threat of rain, and temperatures in the low to mid 80s. Monday into Wednesday will see daily maxes in the mid 80s, mins around 60F with patchy early morning fog, only small chance of any rain in the mountains. By Thursday, a frontal system brings a better threat of showers and thunderstorms during the day with a return to fair skies and slightly cooler weather for the Labor Day Weekend. Tomorrow being the first day of school, there will be more bus traffic, school children, and congestion. With some fog around, please exercise caution during your AM commute. A tropical system is trying to develop in the Bay of Campeche (lower Gulf of Mexico) this morning but will probably head into Mexico around Veracruz before getting a name. It is no threat to us. Late this week or early weekend, another system moving off the coast of Africa may stand a better chance of earning the next name on the list, Fernand.
