Steve signing in at 8:17 AM. Bright blue skies this morning as overnight storms have scoured out the atmosphere. Some residual cloudiness is still occurring in the mountains near the TN border. Temperatures are mainly in the 65 - 70° range with a few readings near 60° in the higher elevations. The actual cold front is probably just entering the western edge of our 4 county area at the moment. It should move east and south of us in another hour or two. There is absolutely no chance of any precipitation with this front but there are a couple things to note: the cooler air wont settle in immediately and temperatures may rise into the middle to upper 80s this afternoon. An active northwesterly breeze and lower humidities should make these temperatures more bearable. Also, clouds will probably linger in the mountains through the day and a few light showers could break out closer to the Tennessee border this afternoon into early evening. No big deal, no storm threat, just a few showers. The cooler air does move in overnight tonight and by Tuesday morning well see widespread upper 50s along the I-40 corridor. Under sunny skies, temps should rise to the upper 70s to around 80° during the day Tuesday and Wednesday. Again there could be more clouds and maybe a shower or two in the mountains each afternoon. By Thursday into the weekend, we see a rewind of conditions. The deep trough responsible for our unseasonably cool July weather begins to retreat westward; at the same time high pressure to our northeast drives the remnant system that gave us our severe weather threat yesterday back onshore. We should see an increasing chance of showers and a few thunderstorms as the weekend approaches. Temperatures may rebound a few degrees into the low and mid 80s by Saturday but still stay below normal.
