Stewart Ah HoiPORIRUA Yesterday, I learned of an unfortunately closure of a Porirua icon, and not that it wanted or needed to close, but more so of a new building owner not requiring their services anymore. Windmill Cake Shop was to close their doors after their very last day of business on Saturday afternoon. Having spoken with the baker/owner, Tom, on the day, it had been 43 Years 8 months and 3 days to the day he opened up the store and with a very heavy heart decided he will be closing up shop. Tom and the Windmill Cake shop have always donated their goods to the community, with myself, on behalf of the Salvation Army, collected donated goods for the last several years (my involvement only in the last few months) that always gave a nice little surprise to the families they were distributed to. Its going to leave a huge gap with the bakery now going, but wish Tom and the staff all the very best for their future endeavours. Very sad indeed.
