"...Stewart called into question why conservatives are so willing to walk all over the rest of the Constitution and its Bill of Rights, but any suggestion that remotely mentions the Second is blasted as unAmerican. Stewart pointed to the fact that the D.C. Naval Yard shooter had legally obtained a gun despite as he put it, passing the background check with “flying crazy,” meaning his long-standing and well-documented history of mental illness and emotional instability should have ticked off a red flag somewhere. Stewart blasted Senator John Cornyn for having no problem shredding the Constitution when it comes to fighting terrorism — the First and Fourth Amendments be damned — but when it comes to making guns harder for violent criminals to get he gets a case of the vapors. The comedic veteran laid waste to Fox News gaping maw Eric Bolling, calling him out for suggesting the FBI should be able to monitor any mosque they want to, dumping all over the freedom of religion promised in the First Amendment. With clip after clip Stewart was able to demonstrate the hypocrisy of the right on guns, pointing out that in 260 days to that point, we’d had 250 “mass shootings” — meaning that there have only been about 10 days or so in 2013 where four or more people weren’t shot in a single incident. The right would rather leave the Second Amendment touched and torch every single other amendment because in their mind it is the most powerful of the amendments, but the problem for all of us, and the problem raised by “The Daily Show” last night, is who gets hurt by the power of the Second Amendment when it’s left unchecked and unrefined from the nearly 250 years that have passed since it was written..."
