Stigma about mental health is really pathetic, especially in Desi culture. If someone even has a neurological dysfunction (which is NOT a mental disorder by the way), the person is perceived as strange and unstable even if the person functions completely normally. Even people with psychiatric disorders are seen with the same lens as crazy. They literally cannot differentiate between different disorders and how they impact people, they just put a blanket statement of crazy on anyone with a disorder. Parents will not allow their children to marry people with mental disorders, and those who actually need help (like schizophrenics) in the family are forgotten and ignored as well as perceived as insane and therefore dangerous. It is sad and pathetic.
