Still Alice- I feel like a Negative Nancy because I have so few - TopicsExpress

Still Alice- I feel like a Negative Nancy because I have so few good things to say about the movies Ive been watching. Im not going to focus on the negative things about the film, even though they were abundant, despite all its potential. The positive: Julianne Moore was phenomenal. If for nothing else, she was utterly phenomenal. She has been busting her ass in films for years now. Big budget films, indie films... shes taking risk not only in the roles she plays but the projects and people she works with. It doesnt always pay off but she always does the work. Shes been in some of my favorite films: The Big Lebowski, Magnolia, Children of Men and The Hours for which she was also nominated, along with Far From Heaven, Boogie Nights and End of the Affair. Shes also been overlooked for work in 2011 for The Kids Are Alright (in fairness it was a particularly good year for leading ladies). She is on the shortlist of Just Give Them an Oscar Already and to most people the What Do You Mean the Dont Have an Oscar along with only: Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adams, Glenn Close. Once again shes offered us up everything she has to give. Its gotten to the point where the nomination isnt good enough anymore. She needs to be recognized and of the 3 other performances Ive seen she deserves it. Marion Cotillard has come in out of nowhere and won before (oddly enough beating out Julie Christie who was also playing a character with Alzheimers). Im holding my final opinion until after Ive seen Two Days, One Night.... however itll have to be another La Vie en Rose caliber performance to sway my feelings about Juliannes work.
