Still blaming the patient for what a decent psychosocial intake - TopicsExpress

Still blaming the patient for what a decent psychosocial intake anticipates in any health situation with attendant social stigma or fear (You dont ask questions that would put the patient in a fearful or defensive position. You anticipate that they may be so afraid they cannot even admit to themselves. You ask questions that assume: eg How many days since you returned from ? Even if you are wrong about location, chances are the patient will correct you, not deny. You preface the intake with assurances about immigration status and lack of legal culpability, you demonstrate a desire and ability to protect.). We should also be concerned that both nurses were flown so far away: it would seem to indicate that *no* other hospitals within Texas, nor within neighboring states, were prepared to handle the cases. Everything that is not right, is the result of a lack of coordinated, early pre-preparation--including public health education (including for nurses on psychosocial issues-- Senegal got it right) --everything from stigma and inappropriate quarantine, to lack of quarantine and transmission.
