Still looking for that first day of back to normal after the wedding. Maybe today is the day! Yesterday certainly wasnt. All we intended to do was get a little work done and return the wedding costumes to Western Costume in Burbank. What happened instead was the Volvo decided to unexpectedly breathe its last breath as I was headed to a job from the Home Depot. First there was an odd sound and then within seconds it turned into something like nuts and bolts grinding in the garbage disposal. It definitely put a stressful kink in the morning, but Tina and I had a strange peace about it. How can we not be anything but thankful for this car? It was a very gracious gift from Lawrence and Sharyl Reid after my Wrangler gave its life to save my own a few years ago when I was run off the freeway. Mad props to the 1993 Volvo 850 for making it to 346,000 miles! So, yes, we were one car down, but the two of the other Sharps are in Hawaii on their honeymoon so we have two extra cars at home to get by. Not to mention the fact that almost right after she gets back from Hawaii, Sparks is headed off to China for a couple more weeks. So we really didnt need to make any car decisions until mid October. So we returned the costumes and settled in for a nice lunch at Laurel Tavern in Studio City (highly recommend) to debrief and hone in on what kind of car comes next. Long story short, for our lifestyle it seemed a crossover might be the best idea, and the Honda CR-V looked promising. But wed never sat in or driven a CR-V so, what the heck, on the way back into town wed stop at the Honda dealer and take a peek. And knowing there was no rush we CLEARLY discouraged the salesman from any notion that today was his lucky day. But what can I say? It was his lucky day. There was no pressure. It JUST happened to be the case that JUST the right CR-V at JUST the right price had JUST rolled onto the lot at the end of a three year lease. So he said, I know youre going to look elsewhere but tell me what crazy thing I could do to sell it to you anyway. So we told him ... a relatively long list of crazy things like the size of the down payment, the accessories wed like to have added at their cost, a great interest rate, a payment in the low $200s, and a full bumper to bumper warranty with no deductible for eight years or 120,000 miles. It was all very nonchalant and cavalier of us ... Right up to the moment when he made it ALL happen! Even as we were signing the docs the finance manager, Claud, a Frenchman, gave us wine and charcuterie tips on our next visit to his beloved home country. It was the easiest, most unexpected car purchase weve ever made. So yeah, pretty amazeballs of a day. Not exactly restful, but pretty amazeballs. Maybe the resting comes today? I dont really know, but if days like that keep happening then I could probably handle a little more stress.
