Stolipinovo is famous as the largest Roma ghetto on the Balkans. There are approximately 50 000 people, a colorful mix of Roma, Christians, Muslims, Turks. During the 1990s, most of the people in the neighborhood become famous with not paying their electricity bills. The situation leads to introduction of regime of the access to electricity, protests, tension between Roma and non-Roma... Then, the EVN Bulgaria has started working on improving the situation, where the level of collectivity of the electricity bills is only 2-3%. Today, 98% of the Roma are paying the electricity. This initiative and intervention of Open Society Institute -- Sofia and EVN Bulgaria breaks the myth that Roma do not pay their electricity.
