Stop Acid Attacks a campaign against acid violence in #India where more than one third of such incidents are caused by spurned lovers. About half of these victims are young women and students. Several hundred survivors are disabled for life and all of them need financial support for medical care to restore their physical abilities. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Not many survivors can ever muster up enough courage to step out of their confinement and those who find their feet somehow, dare not reveal their disfigured faces and bodies for fear of being shunned. Our campaign relies solely on crowd funding, and with your support we have been able to support and rehabilitate numerous survivors. Now we are calling out to all our supporters, to come forward and help us helo Rupa, a survivor who embodies monumental inspiration. Kyra Agarwal, a student at the American Embassy School, New Delhi volunteered with us in the summer of 2014 and worked closely with Rupa. She felt that it was important to highlight the struggle and the extremely difficult rehabilitation process amongst acid attack survivors. She saw that only few people know and understand the physical challenges and the slow torturous emotional healing that can span through a lifetime for a survivor. This is when the ‘Empower Campaign’ was born. The Empower Campaign is focused around the idea of a pepper spray. Through selling these pepper sprays, we hope not just raise funds for Rupa, but also to empower women to protect themselves. We believe that the need of the hour is for people to know, understand and feel the pain of acid attack survivors. This means educating young girls and women to know that this heinous crime against women continues to prevail. This also means educating and causing a mental shift among young boys and men to learn to respect and protect women. We hope the Empower Campaign will urge society to honor and support acid attack survivors for their courage and determination. So come on out and support us while we launch this campaign. We will initiative this campaign by releasing balloons into the sky, something that we believe is simple and symbolic. People will have an opportunity to buy or donate money towards the distribution of pepper sprays to women at a school/college, institution or workplace. Thereafter, we hope to visit numerous girls colleges, schools, and shelters to provide self defense classes to further empower these young girls! Take out some time on Sunday October 5th between 9-12AM and come voice your opinion! Tell us what you believe, and most importantly help us empower the women in our country! Help US help Rupa!
