Stop and Smell the Roses That’s a phrase that most of us have - TopicsExpress

Stop and Smell the Roses That’s a phrase that most of us have heard at least once in our life. Research can’t put a finger on the person who is responsible for its beginning, but it seems that truer words were never spoken. We often become so busy with everyday life that we fail to realize all the blessings that God sends our way. There should be another beatitude that says: Blessed are those who take time to stop and smell the roses, for they shall receive many blessings. The Bible tells of a time when Jesus was talking to his disciples. He was teaching them about the worries that somehow became a major part of their lives and ours today. Jesus pointed out the simple life of a bird. He said that the birds did not reap or sow nor did they have a storehouse or barn, but always had food to eat. Next he challenged the disciples to consider how the lilies grew even though they didn’t toil or spin. He pointed out their beauty by comparing them to all of Solomon’s glory. Five times Jesus told the disciples not to worry. He must have realized how hard it was for them to lean upon Him for their needs. Jesus wanted the disciples to realize they were worrying about the simple things of life. These were the needs of mankind of which God was fully aware. Jesus instructed the disciples to: Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you. After Saul was converted, he had many trials come his way. At any time he could have become angry with God and turned away. Instead he remained true and used his trials to become stronger in his faith. He made a statement of faith in his letter to the Philippians. He proclaimed: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” When it comes to worrying I must admit I am the worst. One thing I found out through this is that 90% of the things I worry about do not even happen. What a waste! God is the One from whom all our blessings come. James 1:17 tells us: Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father. Have you ever looked at something on a daily basis, but one day see it in a different way? That’s what God is waiting for us to do! Until we come to a complete stop in our life, we cannot enjoy all the ‘good’ things that God has for us. Isn’t that the word God used to describe all that he had made? In the Bible it says God created everything and stopped to smell the roses. That’s when He said, “It was good!” Well, maybe it doesn’t say exactly those words in the Bible, but I think it is a qualifying example of what God did and what He wants us to do. If we are to live our life without a lot of added regrets, we need to make a big change. That change starts with the word ‘STOP.’ Then, and only then, will we have time to smell the roses. By the way, when was the last time you stopped to smell the roses?
