Stop politicizing Ebola. It is a serious matter. We could - TopicsExpress

Stop politicizing Ebola. It is a serious matter. We could face grave danger (is there any other kind?) The first time I saw this blame game I thought it was bad political satire. But sadly it was not the Onion. No one who is reasonably intelligent can be spreading this crap at this moment. What are you thinking? I have seen my news feed full of the typical political BS where many on the left blame Republicans, Fox News, failure to pass more comprehensive Obamacare provisions, the NRA, Rush Limbaugh, and the other predictable, go-to guys to blame for anything that will promote the cause, and many on the right blame Obama, the CDC, MSNBC, the airline industry, or whatever. If you believe that is the root cause of this threat - you are simply a seriously uninformed person. Do some reading. Look at the predictive models for the spread. If you spread this crap but dont believe it, you are a propagandist and political opportunist. Shame on you for putting politics ahead of people. And when I say people, I mean lives. To date, Ebola has killed about 50% of those who have gotten it world wide. If you previously played this blame game - think about it and if you have a change of heart - go back and delete it now. Frankly - I dont care how we got here for the moment and you shouldnt either. While the Texas situation may be fairly well controlled - there will no doubt be others. The more times this happens the greater the risk of overloading our systems for dealing with it. If a significant outbreak occurs - it could swamp our capacity to contain it. From the reports I have seen, it will be some months before some of the experimental treatments are more widely available. So in the meantime - we are left with traditional solid public health practices and contagious disease outbreak control measures. What we need is to make sure we put our best efforts forth in terms of science, health care, clean-up, regulation, political will, funding, and make sure we do our best to contain it. We do not need a surgeon general, or a military general. Hopefully the CDC is up to the task - this is what they are supposed to do. And hopefully the health care community is up to the task. And hopefully we are able to employ meaningful and purposeful screening to minimize the number of infected cases that arrive in the US, while helping to control or stop the outbreak hotspots in Africa. This is not a scare post - I believe we can and will control this but I also know it could get out of hand sooner or later - especially if we do not pull together. So stop spreading your political garbage on this topic - and start thinking about what you can do to actually help in any small way. If you are stuck for ideas - let me know and I will give you a list. Heres some starters - educate yourself about the means by which Ebola is spread (not so easily according to current information). Learn about the comparison of Ebola with other contagious viral diseases. Learn about the symptoms, learn about health care system practices, decontamination, and spread rates. Learn about outbreaks and stopping them so you understand what is required to contain, control, and break the cycle. In the mean time, remember the if youre the deer, the color of the hunters pants doesnt matter. . . Stop the blame game on this one and start thinking for yourself. You are not a tool of some politically motivated person, party, or organization unless you choose to be. You, or your loved ones could one day be the deer and how then will that blame serve you or anyone else? youtube/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=wBawB6fFhmE#t=48
