StormTrack 9: Do you want to call the upcoming weather for the weekend a trick? Or treat? The expected cold snap is still on tap to start the weekend. Increasing clouds for Friday along with some light rain showers passing through from time to time both during the afternoon and into the evening. Temperatures in the 40s early, then mostly 50s during the afternoon along with an increasing breeze from the northwest at 10-15mph. Breezy and quite cool in the 50s for trick or treating. Windy and much colder through Friday night as temperatures dip into the 30s. The bigger story as we have been discussing for the past few days is the heavy snow threat from the Smoky Mtns Friday night and Saturday. This could affect travel in the higher terrain of the Smokies and even the Cherohala Skyway which is popular this time of year at peak Fall foliage. This could also affect travel Saturday morning to Cullowhee, NC for the Mocs game that afternoon. You might even see a few flakes blowing around in the breeze on some of the local mountain tops Saturday morning, but not like what they will see in the Smokies and Blue Ridge Mtn peaks. Highs on Saturday only in the 40s with a WInd Chill in the 30s. Lows near the freezing mark by Sunday morning in the city and below freezing away from the city. Sunny and not as windy Sunday with upper 50s. This taste of winter is brief as more seasonal weather quickly returns next week. 60s Monday and Tuesday, then near 70 by Wednesday along with some showers......(David)
