Story #735 P CACKLES A few nights ago my family was awaken by some weird noises up the way behind our house. At first, I thought it was just a fox or panther until it got close like right next to our porch. I heard it step on our porch, stomp across it two times, then run up the hill toward a trough. This thing moved like nothing I ever heard before! Ive lived in these mountains and roamed these hills all my 54 years! I sure as hell know everything that lives out there from a wood mouse to a bull elk and black bear! This was none of those things! It made my pee freeze! I got up and wanted to look out but my feet didnt want to take me to the window. I just stood there with my family huddled behind me. We all went to the back porch when the motion light came on. We didnt see anything but a loud vocal cackling started up. It sounded like hoo hoo hooo...hah hah...woo wah, haaak hak hak!. There was an answer further up toward the crags. That voice was higher pitched and screechy. The Cackler started making weird clacking sounds with its tongue like it was saying something in code. My cat rubbed against my knee and nearly sent me through the ceiling! My son said, Dad! Theres something moving out there! I raised the curtain just a bit and he was right! Something was swaying back and forth up by the trough. It let out another cackling sound. I dropped the curtain and jumped back almost knocking my wife down. We huddled together listening to the commotion until it died down and seemed to go off toward the northwest. All was quiet after that. Someones moved into our neck of the woods. I dont hear anything but get that feeling of being watched sometimes. I dont let my kids play too far away from the house and carry a gun with me even when I walk to the car. Were not alone here and I dont want the new residents to get upset with us. Its so quiet the bugs even ask permission to make noise it seems. As long as were left alone, were fine with them being here. I dont want any squatch teams here either. Whatevers out there is best left out there and alone.
