Story Time Dream Log 10/21/2013 9am-12pm There once was a young girl, who could hear through walls. When mother and father found out they we’re going to have a baby they found the best doctor they could, one who would be help them every step of the way. This doctor was indeed special, for she had taken care of a lot of special children, and knew that this young couple was waiting on a surprise that they couldnt yet understand. When the girl was only a couple months along she heard her mother crying. She didnt know why but hearing her mother cry made her very upset, and so she listened, in hopes to help her mother be happy. The mother was sad because her husband had left and hadnt returned, at first she was worried, than she was depressed, then she was angry, and she would lay up all night bitter at the world. After a while the girl became bitter as well, and so she decided that she would listen through every wall until she found her father and convinced him to come home. She spend the first five years of life listening in every wall, and she soon became annoyed at people for moving around so much. Her mother and the doctor tried to get the young girl to speak but she was so focused on making her mother happy, she never heard the requests from them. But one day she heard a voice much like the one she heard before she came into this world, and she listened to him speak for days. When she was sure she had found him she past the walls in his dreams, as the dream world was just another door to and from reality. In this dream she told him to come back, for mother was very upset with him, and night after night he nudged it off and continued in his new life. Till one night the little girl felt her mother’s bitterness after her sixth birthday party, and decided that if he wasnt going to come nicely than she had to be more assertive. So she gave him another dream, where she stood in the middle of a dark room, and looked at him with blackened eyes, and stared. When he became frightened she spoke to him, calmly, “Father…you have been very bad. You have made mother cry…I grow sick of her crying all the time. Therefore you have to come home and if you don’t, every night till you do, your dreams will become more and more painful. Do not make me do that. I don’t want that and I know you don’t”. She saw her father jump out of bed his heart beating, but again he didn’t come home. Night after night the little girl came back and gave her father her message, each time more and more forceful. She noticed he jumped when a dog barked and so his dreams were filled with blood dripped hounds; she noticed that he flinched when a spider crawled from its web, and so his dreams filled with spiders the size of cars. Night after night she saw her father slowly beaten down, slowly he slept less and less, and slowly he started to head back to mother. One day she observed her mother and decided that she would share her good news. She walked up to her and grabbed her face, her mother was confused and so she decided not to keep her in suspense any longer, “father’s coming home”. With a smile she walked away her mother in shock, and went to tell the doctor. She was happy she was able to help mother, and late at night she listened in to mothers room, wanted to hear her be happy like when she was very little. Listening in she didnt hear anything, and she grew scared, so she got up and went to her mother’s room. There on the floor was her mother, and small pills scattered on the floor. She didnt know what was going on, so she went to go ask the doctor, for the doctor knew a lot of things. When she told the doctor what had happened, she ran out of her office and straight into mother’s room. It was rather rude to walk into someone’s room without knocking, or so the little girl had been taught. So she knocked on the door and waited for her mother to tell her to come in, but she never did, and so she went to bed. In the morning she knocked on mother’s door again, and waited, but still no one answered her. So she went to talk to the doctor, because even though the doctor had been rude, she always knew were mother was. In the doctor’s office she saw one of the nurses that came in every so often to give her a new shot she needed and a piece of candy. The little girl walked slowly to the desk and pecked over, she wished them both a good morning as it was only polite. “Good morning” said the doctor,” I have something very important to talk to you about”. So the little girl and the doctor walked side by side down the halls to a room she had not been in before, and on the bed was here mother, sleeping, and hooked up to many machines that made many sounds. The doctor explained to her that mother was sad, and when you very sad sometimes you become sick, and so they had to keep her in this new room, and watch her. This made no sense for how come she still be sad after she had given her such great news? After a lot of thought she decided that mother, perhaps misunderstood her, or maybe she didnt believe her. So she waited by the door for her father to get back from his long trip. Every day she would wake up, get dressed, and wait by the door. Every once in a while the nurses would come wait with her, and try to talk to her, but she said nothing. Till one day a car pulled up, and a man came out of the car, looked up at the building, and when he looked down at his daughter, he froze. Standing up the little girl dusted her favorite dress off and walked inside. She heard a lot of yelling those first weeks, and she noticed that her mother wasnt getting any better. Then a thought popped in her head that she hadnt thought about before. Her mother was always sad, and the doctor was always around, maybe it had nothing to do with father, maybe it never did. So she decided to talk to the both, she waited till all the nurses left, went into the waiting room with her father and pressed the calling button for the doctor. When the doctor came in she sat down next to the little girl, and the girl got up so she would be facing them, and waited. She decided that her father was the problem after all. The little girl sat next to her mother, and talked to her every day, till one day she woke up. Mother was much happier after that she smiled sometimes too, and the little girl was happy. They spent many years happy together just them and the doctor, and she didnt have to listen in the walls anymore. She grew into a young women, and went to school, spent time in the library downtown, and even made a friend. She was happy, she told herself every morning. One day when she was getting ready to celebrate the holidays, she decided to see if she could still hear walls. So she listened in and out of all the rooms, till she came to her mother, talking to the doctor. The doctor was trying to help mother feel happy by talking about everything that made her sad. She had often done the same and felt much better after talking to the doctor. She listened to many things, that made mother unhappy and as she listed them, the girl fixed them. The next day she listened to her mother talk to the doctor, surely she would have nothing to be sad about today, she had everything just the way she had wanted it. She waited, and mother said nothing, the doctor asked how she was feeling, and still she said nothing. The doctor looked at mother and waited till mother spoke,” I will always be sad”. The doctor looked at mother with wonder, “why will you always be sad?” she asked. She closed her eyed and bowed her head, and spoke ever so quietly,” I will always be sad, because of my daughter…” the girl’s heart sank what could she had possibly done wrong. She sat in the shower, tears masked in the water and listened to her mother breath. The doctor asked over and over what had happened? What could the girl had possibly done to upset her in such a way? Her mother sat anger filled her mouth till she jumped up and screamed, pulling her hair,” I HATE HER! THAT EVIL LITTLE SHIT HAS RUINED MY LIFE, SHE HAS TAKEN EVERYTHING FROM ME! I WISH SHE WAS DEAD, I WISH SHE HAD NEVER BEEN BORN! I HATE HER, I HATE HER I HATE HER”! The girl stood in the shower her ears echoing “I hate her” over and over. The world turned black and she fell to the floor, then silence. Though she didnt stay still for very long, her body moved, but she stayed asleep. The shower still running, her body slithered out of the shower. It crawled past the bed and to the wall, it crawled up the wall till she was completely standing, her body stayed there on the wall listening. It slid along the wall, everything the wall touched moved out of the way, then moved back into place. Her body beat into the door over and over, till blood ran down and puddled on the floor. When the girl woke up she was in the doctor’s office, her face hurt and her head ached, she looked around but there was no one to be seen. The girl stood up and walked around running her hands over the walls, they were silent. She walked outside but no one was there either, and so she went into her mothers room, and slept. She slept till the walls turned from white to grey, she slept till the grass all died, and she slept till not a single sound muttered her name. The girl was happy.....and so she told herself every day.....
