Story time: A friend told me she was being called to a Voir dire - TopicsExpress

Story time: A friend told me she was being called to a Voir dire jury (where the lawyers question you to see if you can deal with the issues in the trial fairly). I recalled the day that I got called to a Voir dire. They herded a bunch of us into an itty bitty room, with both lawyers, the judge, and I presume the defendant at the front. One of the lawyers called out my name VERY sarcastically, Mrs. Tucker. I stood up hesitantly. He said, We know a lot about all of you in this room because you filled out an information sheet. It says here that you are a *professional storyteller.* That lawyer giggled, smirked, and looked around at his audience until they were all giggling. He said, Do you mean to tell me that people *pay* you to tell stories? How does ANYone make a *living* at *that*? I drew myself up to my full 55 1/2 and gave him a sweet smile under glaring eyes. Im told that the look I gave him would have killed Johnson grass. I replied, Sir, I make a living the same way a lawyer does. I work hard, Im very good at what I do, I charge an exorbitant fee, and I can lie with a straight face. Everyone in the room fell out laughing. He tugged his collar and said, Thank you, Mrs. Tucker. That will be all. I was not chosen for jury duty. And they all lived happily ever after.
