Story time ladies and gentlemen. Love Gone Unloved and Time Well Wasted Have you ever spent so much of your time lusting after something, only to watch it slip through your hands like sand through an hourglass? Maybe you caught yourself doing things that you normally wouldn’t do or that seemed trivial at first. The feeling that you get from looking deep into their eyes, noticing the hidden treasures buried deep within, gleaming like so many gemstones under the sunlight. Looking back on it all, I know realize that I should’ve given up long before I did, but something inside me screamed at me to keep trying, hoping that something would work and that she would be mine until the end of time. It all started during the first semester of my sophomore year of high school. She sat next to me in biology class and she had the sweetest voice and softest laugh, like little bells jingling in the breeze. Her eyes shone like icy blue glaciers drifting through sunlit bays, looking at me with what was almost a harsh glare. Her hair was the color of autumn leaves and was as soft as silk, wisps of it drifting down past her ear to gently tickle her cheek. Day in and day out I stared at her from across the room, day dreaming all the possibilities and clever things I would say to get her under my arm, but nothing ever seemed to work. All the clever little lines I had dreamed up to get a smile or even a giggle fizzled out like a firework in the rain. Group projects were always the best chance for me to talk to her, trying to win her over so that I could finally stop day dreaming and actually do some work instead. The semester rolled on and I still had not done anything to try and be with her, focusing instead, too much of my time on after school activities and chores. The end of the year was soon upon me and still nothing, aside from a good friendship was forged between us. Fast forward about 3 years and we get the beginning of the end. We used to hang out all the time, sometimes for hours on end. I would play with her hair and tease her in the hopes that something would happen, but still nothing. I would do anything I could think of, but, in the back of my head I knew that nothing would work and I would be destined to fail. -Broken Poet-
