Stratford Students Deserve a Fully Funded Budget The Board of Education has proposed a 5.46% increase to the budget, however the proposed budget from Mayor Harkin’s office only provides 2.41%. This covers only salary and benefits increases, and provides no money to address issues outlined in the audit of our special education program, enhancements to technology, updates to classroom materials to meet Common Core State Standards, or transportation cost obligations. If the 2014/2015 budget is not fully funded our children can expect: • No NEW technology replacements to bring our schools into the 21st Century – Some schools have 9 YEAR OLD computers • Funds for mandated cost increases for transportation will come from CUTS in existing programs • Inability to meet requirements identified in special education audit issued in 2013 • No NEW classroom resources that are required for SBAC testing • Continuation of the legacy of underfunding kids and classrooms Speak out in favor of increased funding and make your voice heard!
