Street photography to me consists of various factors mainly proximity, similarity, intuition, direction, curve, visual triangle, closure & last but not the least the gestalt vision which I am going to write about in my next blog, now what I am going to talk about is purely how to effectively use birds or animals in street photography . These days very often we see great street images not getting good viewership & by viewership I mean likes here, lets be honest everyone somewhere needs recognition & these likes have become a alternate support for recognition, the birds flying with no real content will easily find about 500 odd likes & a good street image will find 70-80 but I am not saying that its their fault to like these images because everyone of us is not a trained street photographer & we use our likes as a gift. Though no formal training is required & term street in itself is vast we cant blame the viewer . Street photography makes familiar into something mythical and even poetic. In search of unexpected, seeing the street as a arena of vast moments, One should be really patient and in doing that one should be honest that its a mirror image to the times we are living, birds & animals are integral part of our environment but just shooting birds & portraits of animals is definitely not street, these cats & dogs should deliver & be a important part of the moment, to me animals should work as supporting elements but not the main element, for them to fly is like another day at work but how they compliment with the human activity is important. One should possibly try to include storytelling elements that build upon those animals. I am not at all against using animals in street but always ask yourself “Why do I want to include these birds or animals in my street shot , It’s important to ask WHY ? rather than HOW? It should be about WHY are they needed in my shot rather than HOW can I get these birds in my shot . The “Why?” is the reason behind what you are doing & IT WILL START REFLECTING.Street photography is all about expressing yourself and to discover who you are so be intuitive enough & youll know if it works or if it doesnt.
