Strengthening the Missouri Mental Health System – Update Community Mental Health Liaisons – Thirty positions are now filled in Administrative Agent service areas across the state, which completes the hiring process. In addition, the Eastern Region Administrative Agents (BJC Behavioral Health, COMTREA, Crider Health Center, and Hopewell Center) have developed an innovative approach to this project in which they pooled funds to partner with Behavioral Health Response (BHR), the area Access Crisis Intervention agency, to provide coordinated Liaison services across the region. In this model, Liaison services will be available 24 hours a day. Training for the new Liaisons was held October 24-25, at the annual Missouri Coalition of Community Mental Health Centers and Psychiatric Rehab Conference in St. Charles. Training topics included: role of Liaisons, overview of Missouri treatment courts, fundamentals of civil involuntary commitment, Veterans Justice Outreach (VJO) program, and information about hospital admissions and federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) regulations. Emergency Room Enhancements – The Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) has met with the project sites to discuss data needs for evaluation. Intake and screening forms are in development. All data collected from each site will be imported into a web-based system that is currently under development. Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training – The Missouri State CIT Council met again on October 24. The newly hired Community Mental Health Liaison Project Coordinator participated in that meeting and discussed how the Liaisons can connect with CIT. The Council continues to work with new communities who are interested in forming Councils and implementing CIT. CIT trainings have recently been held in Kansas City and St. Louis, which included participants from Rolla, Marceline, and Benton County. The St. Louis local CIT Council is working with the Access Crisis Intervention (ACI) provider in the Eastern region in testing a new on-line reporting program for capturing intervention activities. If successful, this reporting program will be expanded statewide. The next State CIT Council meeting will be held January 16, 2014. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training – The Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) has scheduled six MHFA instructor trainings in Missouri. Trainings are scheduled in St. Louis (Berkeley), Kansas City and Springfield. NAMI Family Programs –NAMI Missouri continues to host Family-to-Family and Basics trainings across the state. Springfield’s first NAMI Basics course is scheduled for January 2014. Training for new teachers of the NAMI Basics course will be in held in Jefferson City on March 21-23, 2014. NAMI plans to provide a total of 24 Family-to-Family courses, 10 NAMI Basics courses, and 20 family support groups in the coming year.
