Strike a referendum against Delhi: Hurriyet leaders.... Srinagar, June 26 (KNN): In occupied Kashmir, pro-freedom leaders thanking the people of Kashmir for observing complete shutdown on the visit of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi have described the strike as a referendum against India. The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Mohammad Yasin Malik and Shabbir Ahmad Shah in their separate statements said that the Tuesday’s shutdown across Kashmir should serve as an eye-opener for the visiting Indian premier. Syed Ali Gilani asked the prime minister to give up the rigid approach and fulfill commitment with respect to the resolution of the Kashmir issue. “With your military might you tried to change the aspirations of masses. Despite announcing the packages and privileges, you failed to change the hard realities. Amid your attempts, situation remained unchanged and uncertainty and instability in Kashmir still prevails,” he added. He described as futile the closed-door meeting of the Prime Minister with Saif-ud- Din Soz, Omar Abdullah and other pro-India leaders. “Mr Singh cannot feel the inner aspirations of the suppressed Kashmiris during these meetings nor would he know the hard reality. Instead he should visit Kunan Poshpora village, visit the unmarked graveyards, listen to woeful tale of innocent son of Mohammad Muhammad Afzal Guru and interact with those parents, whose children were brutally killed in year 2008 and 2010 in indiscriminate fringe by forces,” he maintained. Syed Ali Gilani said that the Kashmiris had nothing personal against Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi. “However, the people of Jammu and Kashmir do protest because both of you figure among the prominent personalities of that country, which with its military might and repressive measures have occupied the territory,” he said. The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement said, “The shutdown should serve as an eye-opener for Manmohan Singh and all those who claim that Kashmiris had given up on their right to self determination.” Senior APHC leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi said that the strike had sent a loud and clear message to the Indian rulers that Kashmir was not a conquered territory of India, rather it was a disputed territory, whose people had been deprived of their inalienable right to self-determination through barrel of gun by the Indians. Another senior APHC leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah said the strike is a referendum of Kashmiris and New Delhi must change its policy towards Kashmir. “The JKLF hopes that this unanimous peaceful protest will open the hearts and minds of Indian leaders and prompt them to shun the path of cosmetic measures to solve the long pending Kashmir issue”, the statement said. The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement also thanked the people for observing shutdown.
