Connecting With Your Kids ICAN Fathering Workshop Synopsis Research on parenting teens indicates that those with highest parental satisfaction comes from those who are more communicative with their teens. It will be a challenge to be more communicative with our teens if this relationship is not cultivated from young. This workshop opens our eyes to the importance of father-child relationship and provides practical tips on how to communicate with your child in a way that will nurture them. Every child needs a parent who values them enough to help them grow into a happy, confident and resilient person. Structure This is a 4-hour workshop that is both engaging and interactive. There will be video clips and discussions in small groups. Fathers of school going children will find a wealth of information and discover much wisdom in fathering young children. Outline Session I: Impact of Fathering a. The impact of our fathers on our own fathering b. Research on parent-child relationship c. The Power of Fathers d. The Personal Fathering Profile e. Introducing the ICAN model Session 2: ICAN of Fathering a. Involvement b. Consistency c. Awareness d. Nurturance e. Closing Activity About The Trainer – Edwin Choy Edwin is a certified Solution Focused Therapist. He is also an approved Solution Focused Brief Therapy supervisor with the Canadian Council of Professional Certification (CCPC) and a Master Practitioner in Solution Focused Therapy. In 1999, Edwin gathered two friends and co-founded Centre for Fathering to inspire dads to be more involved with their children. Centre for Fathering won the Outstanding New Initiative Award given by the National Volunteer Centre. Edwin has spoken on radio on numerous occasions on fathering and on major parenting conferences.
