Structural Dynamics Engineer GE Corporate - Niskayuna, NY Job Number 1800321 GE is an equal opportunity employer, offering a great work environment, challenging career opportunities, professional training and competitive compensation. Essential Responsibilities The Vibrations Lab provides cutting-edge and state of the art solutions in the areas of acoustics and structural dynamics. The lab participates in cross-disciplinary teams for advanced development and design in the area of acoustic, structural dynamics and structural mechanics of mechanical systems such as rotating machinery, medical equipment, process equipment and vibration based diagnostics. The lab focuses on acoustics, structure-borne noise, aeromechanics of turbomachinery, damping solutions for noise & vibration mitigation and forced response characterization under acoustic-structure and/or fluid-structure interaction. As a Vibrations Engineer, you will perform research in the areas of theoretical and experimental modal analysis, acoustics, structure-borne noise, damping techniques and analysis methods and vibration measurement techniques. You will develop and implement new computational and experimental procedures for mitigating structural noise & vibrations risks to industrial products through innovative mechanical design solutions including advanced dampers (passive or active). You will develop new concepts towards the above goals and validate those with laboratory scale prototype testing. You will: Perform analysis and prediction of noise & vibration for various GE industrial products like turbine blades, medical equipment like CT & MR machines, O&G drilling equipment. Develop, assess and validate cutting-edge numerical and experimental techniques for determining physical characteristics and forced response of structures (Numerical techniques can be analytical methods implemented in MATLAB or other software OR Ansys based structural dynamics analysis toolsets – including scripts in Ansys APDL) Apply advanced acoustic modeling techniques like Statistical Energy Analysis Use probabilistic methods and advanced signal processing tools to characterize and estimating structural response to vibration under operating conditions Work closely with global GE business product teams in the design, testing, implementation, and communication of Vibration & acoustic analysis and experimental methods. Work in teams – as an individual contributor - to meet tight deadlines that directly impact program or product schedule. Qualifications/Requirements Doctorate degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related discipline with concentration in the areas like vibration, acoustics, structure-borne noise and structural dynamics Technical background and understanding of analytical and experimental techniques in acoustics and vibrations Hands-on research or industry experience using Statistical Energy Analysis method for acoustic analysis Hands-on research or industry experience with experimental modal analysis, vibration measurements using commercial software like LMS Hand-on research or industry experience using Ansys or similar FEM software for structural dynamics analysis e.g. modal, forced response, acoustic-fluid-structure interaction Familiarity with programming using tools such as ANSYS macros, EXCEL and Matlab. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening. Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY. Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process. Must be 18 years or older. You must submit your application for employment on the careers page at gecareers to be considered. Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen. Desired Characteristics At least 1 year of prior industrial or post-graduate experience with demonstrated hands-on experience in computational and/or experimental methods in noise & vibration Demonstrated experience in topics such as passive & active noise control, damping solutions for noise & vibration mitigation Familiarity with probabilistic design methods and optimization techniques. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated 1 year industrial experience – in the areas of acoustic modeling using SEA and FEM for structural modeling using commercial software Proven ability to work across all technology disciplines/functions/levels as part of a team. Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
