Struggling with a sin, thinking why ? When we sin in one way we turn from God and so it makes it harder for us to avoid falling into sin some other way for example if your judging someone and keeping away from swearing, your turning from God by judging and so you think that that sin Uve kept away from by Gods grace has come back. There are several things we can do. If we have not sinned in some way for a period then let us tell ourselves that we will avoid it a little longer, just until the end of the month. Or if we have been preserved by Gods grace for a month we say that we will just avoid this sin for 40 days. Anything to help us be encouraged to make just a little more effort. We should also unite our prayers with the needs of those dearest to us and always remind ourselves that God hears best the prayers of a righteous man. We must say to ourselves that we need to keep praying for those persons in great need and that we dare not sin because they need our prayers. And we should have in mind the trial and crucifixion of our Lord Jesus. We should remind ourselves that when we sin we are joining the crowd who shouted crucify him, crucify him. We do not want to imagine ourselves doing that but when we sin deliberately that is exactly what we are doing. - Abouna Peter Farrington
