Students of German Master receive scholarships German - TopicsExpress

Students of German Master receive scholarships German Ambassador to Kenya, Andreas Peschke, and the Head of DAAD Regional Office for Africa, Mr. Blumbach, handed over 14 scholarships to students at the University of Nairobi (UoN) today. The students of the “German Master” will study German for the next 2 years. As part of their programme, they will spend 5 months in Germany at the Universität Bielefeld, Universität Bayreuth or TU Dresden. The German Master aims at creating a center of excellence in East Africa. However, since 2010, the programme is open to students from all over Africa. This year, students come from 8 different countries, including Kenya, but also Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Nigeria or Sudan. German studies are gaining more and more ground in Kenya. Today, there are over 680 students of German language at different universities in Kenya. Awarding more and more scholarships to students of the German Master is another important piece in the puzzle to further strengthen the relationship between Germany and numerous African countries. In Kenya, several organizations work towards promoting German studies and language: of course there is the German Exchange Service. But there is also the German School Nairobi, where pupils from Kenya, Germany and many other countries learn together. And obviously there is the Goethe-Institut Nairobi, where Kenyans go to learn German or experience cultural exchange between our countries.
