Students of Isa Viswa Vidyalayam are doing their part to make Trivandrum greener. The Global Energy Parliament started a campaign in 2013 to give away 1,00,000 fruit trees as part of its Green Neighbourhood Project. The project aims at urban solutions to climate change. Students visit houses in Trivandrum District and ask the residents many questions about their habits and their lifestyle relating the environment. They then provide the resident with a suitable indigenous fruit tree to help make their home greener, provide a cool place, ensure food security for generations, and balance the water belt. They train the residents how to care for the trees and to maintain the water table using a specially developed water ring dug around the tree. We have so much fun, too!
