Students, time to find your new cause. When I arrived on - TopicsExpress

Students, time to find your new cause. When I arrived on campus as a newly minted undergraduate, in 1995, I naively thought Id land in a place of electric political activism, people fighting for causes, people demonstrating on campus... ... well... by then, the struggle was over, most of the new recruits to campus didnt remember the turmoil of the 80s and hadnt yet been exposed to a new school curriculum that laid out more explicitly what apartheid was. It was pretty disappointing - varsity was about boozing it up, and jolling. Hardly a minute spent fighting for something important. At the Fossil Free SA Cape Town launch, last week, by Robert Zipplies and David Le Page , Anton Cartwright spoke about how campus activism has died since apartheid fell. But heres our chance for a new movement. A new cause to fight for. And heres a great strategy as part of a broader societal approach to tackling this massive threat. So, students, lets get radical. nytimes/2014/11/20/us/harvard-students-move-fossil-fuel-divestment-fight-to-court.html?_r=0
