Studying American Indian History has changed my perspective on Columbus Day.To say the least, there were many before Columbus who made contact with the Natives of this land. Such as the vikings! Also, really, what Columbus discovered was an enriched and diverse world that had been flourishing long before his arrival. Today, our hearts should be with the Natives of the past as well as the present who have been struggling to revive their many distinct communities, their land (that we Americans take for granted), their many cultures, and their many languages. God bless them for their patience and perseverance. #indigenouspeoplesday
