Stuttering in Telegu I have a family here in Atlanta from - TopicsExpress

Stuttering in Telegu I have a family here in Atlanta from India. Their native language is Telegu. The boy I am helping is 4.5 years. Hindi is the official language of India and there are 40 more languages specific to geographic areas within India. Many more dialects exist within towns and villages. I have a great deal of respect for the work ethic of the many Indian families I have served over the last 20 years. Young children tend to develop chronic patterns of stuttering on specific words. Words they initiate speech with are some of the most problematic. A partial list of these words/sounds include: I, what, can, you, he, do, did, and many others. These are words that young children start an utterance with. What is the pronoun I in Telegu you ask? నేను nēnu i in Telugu This little boy was blocking and grimacing when saying nenu. The same strategies from my FAST Fluency program are solving this. SLPs and parents who have bilingual children they are helping want to look at the key words these children use all day. The family will return to India with a smooth talking child and a tool box of techniques to help. Internet sessions allow follow up as needed.
