Subject: There is always something to be grateful for... something to inspire us to more kindness.... People reach out to me when they are in need. They come to me to share and often to vent their frustrations, their disappointments. They dont come to me entirely happy, otherwise they would not be coming to me. This is my work. And so I see that side of the human character that is suffering, that is not entirely happy and satisfied. They come to me for solutions. I see anger, regret, lament, resentments, fears, disappointments. I see a lot of heartache and I watch and observer all of it and try to encourage a different perspective. A different perspective is always available. This early morning one such client reached out, a client that has what we would call every privilege and luxury and a heart of gold... (she is not on fb and so I can share). A lovely family, a loving husband ( they have been smitten and in love with each other for over 14 years) and everything that she has ever wanted or imagined and her problem was not really a problem at all, she was just tired and needed to vent about a very little thing- a mother in law who was not well and she would have to take care of for a little while. In her busy schedule she just didnt want this on her load. Little discomforts have the potential to create larger discomforts when not put into a more realistic and holistic perspective. A mind not at ease, creates dis-ease! I think we have been conditioned into feeling the cup is half empty and we look to find fault rather than what we have before us that is indeed plenty to be grateful for. The glass can be half empty or half full. Just now I contemplate that it is half regardless of which half it is. And the opposite of half is whole. Is life not whole for everyone in that nobody is exempt from the whole life spectrum of experience? This is what I am contemplating this morning. That life is whole in that we all receive our fare share of heartache, disappointment, sorrow, fear, rejection, love, kindness, happiness, excitement, joy, tenderness.... I know that I have experienced it all over and over again and so I must be whole..... The cup is always filled and full of everything that we require to be human and in being human we can offer our love and support to each other when in need. There is always something to be grateful for, something to inspire us to more kindness and so I drew my friends attention to feeling kindness to a mother in law who was not well and whose life has given her the husband she has always dreamed of. Time to pick up Filou the dog and take him to the park and just be silly and playful. People often ask me how I switch off from work. With silly little things like this.
