“Successful and sustainable smart cities require careful planning of energy, water, transportation and communication facilities for citizens’ public health and safety.” says Gilles Betis, Chair IEEE Smart Cities Initiative, 2014. Closer to home, Malaysia’s crime index is currently at 74.67 compared to Asia’s crime index average of 41.07 (source: numbeo). Of paramount importance is a safe city with crime monitoring and prevention, emergency and hazard response, and traffic and transportation planning. MIMOS addresses this with the next wave of technologies for IoT in Malaysia which includes a Rapid Intelligence, Surveillance and Response (RIS) solution. It boasts a combination of intelligent surveillance and analytics, big data analytics, cloud computing, smart sensors and a heterogeneous wireless system which takes advantage of LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, P2P and Mesh technologies. Crime and intrusion on campuses or building premises and traffic congestion and violations can be immediately detected via wireless surveillance networks and response personnel deployed to the site quickly and efficiently. All event data are relayed via streaming of pictures, video and messages to smart devices of the nearest security personnel for immediate response. Rapid deployment can be done anytime and anywhere minus expensive and cumbersome network cabling works. Its components are mainly low power devices to further encourage the adoption of solar power. Coverage can span several kilometres with each plug-and-play camera monitored in real-time with Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee for voice, video and critical data. Citizens can be assured of safe communities as they no longer have to be responsive to report an incident rather security personnel come to their aid before they know it! #IoTMalaysia #IoT #SmartCity #Safety #Security #Crime #Surveillance #LTE #WiFi #Bluetooth #ZigBee #P2P #Mesh #QoS Dr. Mazlan Abbas @Dr. David Chieng @Dr. Hon Hock Woon
