Such a mixture of emotions today. We have been watching as Jareds - TopicsExpress

Such a mixture of emotions today. We have been watching as Jareds health is slightly declining, moving from a MELD of 31 a week ago, then 40 a few days ago and on Sunday a 44. He is on daily dialysis, physically weak and often confused, but hes still Jared, teasing the nurses and staff & making us smile. His MELD score has put him in the #1 spot for the region for the past few days and our prayers are being answered. A 2nd liver (1st one was offered on Friday night but wasnt suitable for him) was found very early on Sunday morning and they took him to surgery on Sunday at 7pm. I am so relieved that a new liver means he will be able to progress to the next stage of healing, but I am still feeling some anxiety for him and his family, looking at the long road he has ahead of him. I am also feeling heavy-hearted, realizing that our relief in finding a suitable liver means that another family has had to say good-bye to their loved one. My heart is filled with somber gratitude to them for making the choice to be an organ donor. I sure do love my brother.
