We have 29 occupational licensing boards of which I would judge at least half are unnecessary or could be privatized. From an idealistic perspective that seems terrible and oppressive. But according to this study from Mercatus we arent even on the chart for this issue. California has 177 Occupational licenses and there are 20 other states with over 100. No wonder everyone is moving to Texas. Excessive licensing kills jobs and the regional economy.
