Sue and I visited Crested Butte, CO a few weeks ago and went to the Wildflower Festival. We had a wonderful time hiking through fields of flowers and photographing them as well. The Columbine, Colorados State Flower, normally has deep blue petals like the one on the bottom. This year we saw a large number of bleached columbines, which seemed unusual. Could this be due to the wet spring and summer, or is this simply a normal variation? Both versions of the flower are very appealing. I think that I prefer the bleached flower.
