Suede-voiced Mark Kilfoil narrates my short tall tale “Demons Hide Their Faces” at Far-Fetched Fables: farfetchedfables/far-fetched-fables-no-2-a-a-attanasio-and-seana-graham/ I think of this story as postmodern Lovecraft. It uses converging timelines to describe, in alternating idylls, the past and present experiences of an ingenuous grad student in a Goetic domain at the far end of time. There, Boltzmann brains (demons) occupy a cosmically expanded universe, of which they inform us: ”At the dark limits of our expanding cosmos—in the googolth year of what you call time—each atom of our world is as large as the entire universe of your lifetime.” The setting is truly >far< out! I’m impressed that Far-Fetched Fables selected this tale to narrate, because its nonlinear plot snaking across time might pose a challenge for listeners.
